Whiskey Investment Emerges as Alternative Asset Class with 12-14% Annual Returns
Ireland's Marrowbone Lane Irish Whiskey (MLIW) is pioneering a novel investment vehicle by offering whiskey cask ownership to investors. The distillery, founded by Michael Ward and Professor Vijay Edward Pereira, currently manages 4,000 casks and reported £10 million in turnover last year.
Investors can purchase 200-liter casks for £3,500-4,000 ($4,500-5,200), with aging whiskey gaining both flavor complexity and market value over time. 'The older the whiskey, the deeper the flavour - and consequently the higher the value,' explains Pereira, noting the program's 12-14% projected annual returns.
This alternative asset class capitalizes on Ireland's reputation for premium whiskey production while offering tangible asset ownership. Each cask yields approximately 280 bottles, with value appreciation tied to both maturation period and global demand for collectible spirits.
